Introduction

The Han River Bridge is Vietnam's first and only swing bridge. It is very important to the residents of Da Nang, not only because it connects the Son Tra and Hai Chau districts, but also because it represents unity and local pride.

At night, the bridge is adorned with sparkling lights, which reflect on the water's surface, resulting in a mystical ambiance. The entrancing atmosphere is further enhanced by the twinkling of stars in the night sky, which leaves a lasting impression on all who witness it.

How to get there

The Han River Bridge is in the middle of Da Nang city on Le Duan Street. It connects the eastern and western sides of the Han River. Motorbikes, taxis, and private cars can all easily get there. Below are two common routes:

From Da Nang Central Bus Station: Follow Ton Duc Thang Street - Dien Bien Phu Street at the Le Duan intersection, go straight to reach the bridge.

From Da Nang International Airport: Take Nguyen Van Linh Street, then turn left onto Tran Phu Street, next turn right onto Le Duan Street, and continue straight to reach the Han River Bridge.

Best time to come

The Han River Bridge's swing plan has been changed over the years. At night, it still turns, but at different times based on the day:

Monday to Friday: The bridge swings at around 1:00 AM, with its central span rotating 90 degrees to open two lanes for ships to pass. Depending on the traffic, it returns to its original position at either 2:00 AM or 4:00 AM.

Saturday and Sunday: On weekends, due to the spike in tourism and the increased interest in watching the bridge swing, local authorities have moved the schedule earlier. At 10:45 PM, all vehicle traffic is halted, and at exactly 11:00 PM, the bridge begins to rotate. After about 60 minutes, it returns to its original position.

To better accommodate traffic on the waterways, the Han River Bridge can rotate. The ability to rotate the middle piece of the bridge 90 degrees makes it possible for ships to pass by.
