A haven to over 180 rescued primates belonging to 15 species, the center operates day and night to assist in the conservation of Vietnam's mind-boggling biodiversity. The center is the residence of its rescued inhabitants of the critically endangered Delacour's langur and the endangered Cat Ba langur. For the conservationist enthusiast, the wildlife photographer, or just anyone who wants to be near nature, a visit to the EPRC is an informative and enriching experience.

History of the Endangered Primate Rescue Center

Endangered Primate Rescue Center was established in 1993 by Frankfurt Zoological Society of Germany and Cuc Phuong National Park. It was to establish a rescue center for the Vietnam primates, the majority of which were facing extinction due to wildlife trade, hunting, and habitat loss.

The center started out with some rescued primates and, over the years, progressed into a real rescue, rehabilitation, and breeding facility. Success with breeding helped build threats toward the survival of the critically endangered species, i.e., Delacour's langur, which was since then successfully released again into secure habitats. EPRC is currently one of the best primate conservation efforts in Southeast Asia, receiving scientists, conservationists, and ecotourists from across the world.

Best Time to Visit

The Endangered Primate Rescue Center operates year-round, but it is best to visit Cuc Phuong National Park and the area from October to April. The weather is dry and cool during this time, ideal for trekking tours and wildlife spotting.

Spring (March - May): The woods are full of the fresh greenery and wildlife activity. It is also the time when most of the animals deliver their babies, so you have the opportunity to watch baby primates learn to find their footing.

Winter (December - February): Ideal time to visit with mild not-so-cold weather, except for misty mornings, which add a mystical touch to the excursion.

Rainy season (May - September): The park is beautiful and in full bloom, but the trails are slippery due to heavy rains. Visit during this time equipped with waterproofing equipment.
