Nestled in the heart of the Ninh Binh Province, Van Long Nature Reserve is an oasis of tranquility and biodiversity, also referred to as "the bay without waves." It covers almost 3,000 hectares and represents the largest wetland nature reserve in northern Vietnam, with a perfect combination of limestone karsts, lush vegetation, and serene waterways. The Delacour's langur and more than 100 species of birds, as well as a particular flora on water, can be considered real treasures of this nature. Tourists come here because of the pristine beautiful landscapes and the ability to relax in the quiet and to have boat tours, go bird-watching, or just wander around this amazing landscape.
The establishment of the Van Long Nature Reserve in 1999 marked a major milestone in nature conservation for Vietnam. Once an immense agricultural area in the province of Ninh Binh, it was changed into a protected wetland to conserve its unique ecosystem and cultural heritage.

Having high levels of biodiversity over millions of years, this has developed these formations of karst and the area as one of sanctuary for so many species, like Delacour's langur listed as in danger, to find its home on cliffs of this reserve. Centuries long, farming and fishing assured the life for the surroundings because they did coexist.
Since its designation as a nature reserve, Van Long has become a symbol of sustainable development and eco-tourism. It has conserved sensitive ecosystems but has also opened new horizons for local people through tourism and conservation projects. Today, Van Long stands as a testament to the delicate balance between the preservation of natural beauty and human livelihood.
The best time to visit Van Long Nature Reserve is in the dry season, from November to April, when it is cool and pleasant with very little rain. This period offers clear skies, ideal for enjoying the tranquil landscapes and spotting wildlife, including the endangered Delacour's langur.

For the birdwatcher, March and April are particularly rewarding months as migratory birds descend in droves to the wetlands. Alternatively, from May to June is the lotus blooming season when the reserve puts on a picture-postcard display of pink and green hues.
Avoid the peak of the rainy season, from July to October, as heavy rains make boat tours less enjoyable. However, the lush greenery at this time does provide a unique and vibrant experience for nature lovers.
