The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is one of the most prominent cultural sites in the capital city of Hanoi. Located on Nguyen Van Huyen Street, Cau Giay District, the museum is a window to the cultural diversity of the 54 ethnic groups on the S-shaped strip of land.

The museum was established in 1997 with the mission of preserving and introducing traditional cultural values of ethnic groups in Vietnam. The museum space is divided into two main areas: indoor exhibition area and outdoor exhibition area.
Indoor exhibition area:
The indoor exhibition area consists of three floors with thousands of artifacts representing the lives, customs and rituals of ethnic groups. Here, visitors can admire traditional costumes, labor tools, folk musical instruments and many other valuable documents.
Outdoor exhibition area:
The outdoor area has a larger area, recreating traditional architectural works such as the stilt house of the Western people, the long house of the Ede people or the communal house of the Ba Na people. Each work is built based on research to create conditions for visitors to experience reality.

- The entrance fee to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is regulated as follows: 40,000 VND/person/time for regular visitors; 20,000 VND/person/time for students; and 10,000 VND/person/time for pupils.
- The museum offers a 50% discount policy for the elderly, people with severe disabilities, and ethnic minorities. At the same time, free admission is applied to children under 6 years old and people with extremely severe disabilities.
- The museum's explanation fees are as follows: VND50,000 for an indoor or outdoor explanation in Vietnamese, and VND100,000 for a full museum explanation. If English or French is used, the explanation fee is VND100,000.
- For photography, the fee for using a tourist camera is VND50,000/camera, while a professional camera costs VND500,000/camera.

Trong Dong Building is dedicated to exhibitions, drawing inspiration from the elegant circular shape of the traditional instrument of the same name.
With a total area of over 2,000 square meters across two floors, Most of the building is dedicated to displaying the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam with artifacts, photos, films, vivid recreation areas and many interesting research articles.

This building has four floors, with the top one specifically designed for artifact restoration and conservation, while the other three are mostly open to the public, bar a few offices. Since the kite is synonymous with Asian culture as a whole, visitors can also expect exhibitions of foreign cultures alongside an auditorium, cinema, and multimedia room.

The outdoor exhibition area - Kien Truc Garden was built from 1998 - 2006 and is about 2 hectares wide. It introduces 10 unique folk architectural works of 10 Vietnamese ethnic groups such as Cham house grounds, Bana communal house, Vietnamese house, Giarai tomb house, Ede longhouse, Cotu tomb house, Tay stilt house, Hmong ground floor house, Ha Nhi rammed earth house and Dao half-floor, half-ground floor house.
The Kien Truc Garden is covered with many types of green trees and a cool artificial stream. This place introduces the diversity and richness of Vietnamese culture.

The museum regularly organizes intangible cultural performances on occasions such as Mid-Autumn Festival, Lunar New Year, International Children's Day, etc. These events always attract a large number of visitors to participate and experience.
At the museum, you can also learn about the craft villages. This is an opportunity to admire the ingenuity and talent of artisans and craftsmen when weaving mats, weaving brocade, weaving bamboo and rattan, making pottery, drilling gun barrels, making do paper, making folk toys, and printing Dong Ho paintings.
