Bach Ma National Park was established in 1991 and is some 37,487 hectares in area. It contains over 2,100 plant species, 150 mammal species, and more than 350 bird species and hence is one of Vietnam's most ecologically valuable areas.

They developed Bach Ma into a hill station, constructing villas and infrastructure so that they could retreat from the sweltering lowland heat. Bach Ma National Park is about 40 km from Hue and can be accessed with a car, taxi, motorbike, or bus. By car or taxi, the ride is about an hour, with nice views along the road.
