Legend of Chi Lang Nam Stork Island's formation

Chi Lang Nam Stork Island was then a mound surrounded by the lowland countryside. Legend says in the early 15th century, catastrophic floods breached Red River dike thrice, causing widespread inundation and sweeping villages away.  Afterward, the water receded, forming islets in the middle of the lake.

Efforts to protect Nam Chi Lang Stork Island

There are many bird gardens across Vietnam, but most of them have less number and diversity than Chi Lang Nam Stork Island. In previous years, the number of herons on the island declined rapidly due to hunting. Faced with this situation, Thanh Mien District has developed a plan to coordinate with the management board and the people to jointly protect bird flocks.

Each year, the management board collaborates with scientists to study the specific characteristics of each species. This research informs adjustments to the island's environment, ensuring it is suitable for these birds. Based on these findings, construction projects on the island adapted to align with living habits.

Since recognizing the spiritual value that nature provides, locals never harm the birds.  You'll never hear a gunshot or see a trap. Because of this, the birds live freely and thrive in their peaceful home.
