Virachey National Park Trekking Tour 4 Days: Adventurous Deep

Leave the office in Banlung at 8:30am for the 60-minute drive to Vuern Sai district, located 40 km north of Banlung. Upon arrival at Vuern Sai, take a 5-minute boat ride on the Ton Le San River, followed by a 40-minute boat ride along the O’La Lai River to reach the remote Kavet ethnic minority village.

Note: During the dry season (March-June), when the river is too shallow, we will transfer via ferry across the Sesan River and continue by motodube or local trailer for 20 minutes to the Kavet village.

Meet the tribal ranger upon arrival and explore the village with your guide. After lunch, your trek begins.

Your first stop is an area inhabited by tarantula spiders. Your guide and ranger will show you how to use a grass leaf to draw a tarantula out of its hole, if one is found. Continue trekking deeper into the bamboo forest to cross a river (35 meters wide, 2 meters deep), where you’ll need to swim across. Your belongings will be safely packed in plastic and floated across.

Once across, put on long clothing to protect yourself from insects, including leeches. Continue hiking for another 90 minutes to a beautiful waterfall with a clear pond, perfect for a refreshing swim.

Your guide and ranger will set up camp by the waterfall, prepare hammocks, and start a fire to cook dinner. Enjoy your meal by candlelight and firelight, surrounded by the tranquility of the jungle.

For those interested, a night safari trek (30-60 minutes) is possible, depending on your energy level. Let your guide know if you'd like to join.

Overnight: Camp near the waterfall, immersed in the jungle's peaceful surroundings.

After breakfast, bid farewell to the indigenous family and begin your 3-hour rafting journey back down the river. Along the way, enjoy the peaceful surroundings as you glide down the water, retracing your route to the village where you began your adventure.

Upon arrival at the village, step off the raft and enjoy a final lunch with your ranger. Afterward, say your goodbyes to him before boarding a boat for the return trip south to Vuen Sai.

In Vuen Sai, transport will be waiting to take you on a 60-minute drive back to Banlung, where your adventure comes to an end.

After breakfast, begin your 3-hour trek towards the river. Arriving around noon, take a break for lunch before continuing with an afternoon activity: building a bamboo raft. Everyone will work together to chop bamboo, create strings from young bamboo, and tie the pieces together to form the raft. You’ll also make bamboo paddles before starting your rafting journey.

After about 1.5 hours of rafting, you’ll reach a large rapid and the home of a few indigenous families living in bamboo houses. You will stay overnight with them, experiencing their way of life.

Before settling in, take a short trek up a nearby mountain for a panoramic view of the surrounding jungle, which borders Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. The view is breathtaking and offers a unique perspective on this vast region.

After sunset, return to the village for dinner with the indigenous families. In the evening, enjoy a small celebration with traditional homemade jar wine, and learn more about the community's lifestyle, culture, and traditions.
