Boarding on boat during the afternoon. You will begin your discovery of the legendary Irrawaddy River by a cruise to the little town of Mingun, 11 km from Mandalay (1 hour).
Comfortably settled on the upper deck, you will discover the local life of the river and its shores: fishermen villages, buffalos, wheat fields, floating markets, washerwomen… On arrival, you will enjoy an amazing sunset with views on Mingun Pagoda. Dinner and night on board.

You will wake up facing the ancient royal city of Mingun. Discover the city at the first lights of dawn: the place is empty, visitors from Mandalay coming not before the end of the morning. Visit of Mingun Pagoda, whose construction was started by King Bodawpaya in the early 19th century, and that should have been the biggest in the world. The death of the sovereign in 1819, combined to the earthquake of 1838, stopped this spectacular project. Another stop is planned at the Bell of Mingun (90 tons, 4 meters tall and 5 meters wide), the second biggest bell in the world, after Moscow’s. You will also discover the marvellous white pagoda of Hsinbyume. Lunch on board.
Then, you will go downstream on the Irrawaddy River towards Sagaing, “the hill with a thousand pagodas”. This magical place is a gathering of curiosities spread on the hills, that you will discover by foot. The hilltop offers superb views of pagodas and temples, stretching all along the Irrawaddy River. On late afternoon, you will reach Ava after a 30-minute cruise. Dinner and night on board.

In the morning, you will face Ava, and enjoy a beautiful ride with traditional horse-drawn carriage. Once again you will benefit from the early hours of the day to be the only people in town and freely discover this timeless place. Visit of the ruins of the Royal Palace, the watchtower, the teak wood monastery of Bagaya and the monastery of Maha Aungmye Bonzan. Back on board and towards Mandalay, from the deckchairs of the upper deck you will observe fishermen collecting their nets, and other scenes from the daily life of Irrawaddy River. Disembarkment at Mandalay jetty on late morning.
