At 1 PM, you'll be picked up from the airport or your hotel in Luang Prabang and welcomed aboard your boutique German-Laotian cruise ship. Settle into your cozy cabin before exploring the UNESCO-listed old town. Climb Mount Phou Si for stunning river and mountain views, then return to the ship for drinks, a welcome reception, and a delicious dinner featuring Asian and European cuisine.

At dawn, witness the sacred almsgiving ritual as monks in saffron robes move silently through Luang Prabang. After breakfast, explore the old town, visit the stunning Wat Xieng Thong, and discover the history of the former royal palace at the National Museum. Your cruise then sets sail, gliding through breathtaking landscapes of lush hills and misty mountains. As night falls, the ship anchors at a secluded sandbank, where you’ll drift to sleep to the gentle sounds of the Mekong.

As you cruise downstream, admire the stunning landscapes before reaching the impressive Xayabouri Dam, Laos’ largest hydropower plant. Your ship then turns upstream, heading to a remote Hmong hill tribe village. Here, you’ll meet locals, visit the village school supported by Mekong River Cruises guests, and gain insight into Hmong traditions. Back on board, unwind with a sundowner on deck or enjoy the Cruise Director’s engaging program.

During breakfast the cruise will continue further upstream to reach the Farming village Ban Muang Khai, from where you’ll be taken by tuk-tuk on a guided excursion to the famous Kuang Si Waterfalls. Right next to the waterfalls is the heartwarming “Free the Bears” rescue center, dedicated to the protection and conservation of the endangered sun and moon bears (Malayan and Tibetan bears) throughout Southeast Asia. Here, we’ll learn more about the incredible efforts to rehabilitate these gentle creatures. Enjoy lunch while the stunning panorama of Luang Prabang unfolds, slowly drifting by up north. Laos. That evening, we pause a bit earlier to prepare for our renowned Mekong River Cruises barbecue, set in a picturesque riverside location.

After breakfast, visit the sacred Pak Ou Caves, filled with thousands of Buddha statues left by pilgrims. Choose between a scenic jungle trek or a short boat ride to Ban Muang Keo, where you’ll learn the art of Lao-Lao rice whiskey distillation from master craftswoman Miss Somechan Khonpachith—complete with a tasting. Enjoy lunch as the cruise returns to Luang Prabang. The afternoon is yours to explore before an evening of traditional Lao dance and a heartfelt Baci well-wishing ceremony on the sundeck.
