Southern Vietnam was the last frontier of the country to be settled in the 16th - 18th century southward expansion. The southern region comprises 19 provinces from Binh Phuoc to southernmost Ca Mau, including two major cities: Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho City. It is further divided into two subregions: Southeast and Southwest (or Mekong Delta).

Southern Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate with stable temperatures ranging from 25 to 35°C (77 to 95°F) throughout the year. It is characterized by two main seasons: the wet season and the dry season. The wet season typically starts around June and lasts until November. The dry season falls between December and ends in April the following year.

The wet season brings heavy rainfall and occasional flooding. However, this doesn't mean you shouldn't visit during this time. From June to September, the orchards in the Mekong Delta are laden with fruits, time to indulge in tropical flavors. And you'll witness the fascinating lives of the riverside communities in the following months.
Traveling to Southern Vietnam during this time means services are typically more affordable, and hotels usually have plenty of available rooms. If you don't mind the humid weather and occasional rain, this is still a suitable time of year to embark on your journey.

The first journey will take you from the history to the culture of this land. Immerse yourself in the poignant history of Ho Chi Minh City at the War Remnants Museum exhibit sheds light on the Vietnam War. Continue stepping into the past at Reunification Palace. As evening falls, go to Ben Thanh Market and savor local street food flavor.

Heading North to Tay Ninh Province. But first, drop by the Cu Chi Tunnel. Experience being a soldier during the war in Vietnam's most elaborate tunnel systems. Finally travel to Tay Ninh and ascend Ba Den Mountain, a place of both natural beauty and spiritual significance.
Set off for My Tho in Tien Giang Province, golden Vinh Trang Pagoda awaits here. The afternoon brings a boat trip to the “Coconut Kingdom” Ben Tre Province. Explore workshops in Con Phung join hand in craft products from coconuts and glide through peaceful canals on a traditional sampan boat. Work hard and sleep for a big day tomorrow.

Rise early for an experience at the Cai Rang Floating Market in Can Tho. Afterward, step back in time at Binh Thuy Ancient House, a well-preserved East-Western architecture. In the evening, grab some friends for a long drink with Mekong Delta dishes at Ninh Kieu Wharf.
Final day in Soc Trang Province. Visiting Wat Som Rong to admire the biggest reclining Buddha Statue in Vietnam. Later, visit the Bat Pagoda (Chua Doi), home to thousands of fruit bats. After landing at Tan Son Nhat National Airport, jump on a drive to Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province. Ascend to the iconic Vung Tau Jesus Christ Statue for a breathtaking city view. Spend the afternoon unwinding on the golden sands in Sau Beach, soaking up the sun and sea breeze.

Say goodbye to the islands and return to Vung Tau. A boat trip will bring you to Long Son Raft Village. When visiting the floating village, don't miss the oyster harvesting experience. Getting a plate of fresh oysters is not as easy as you might think. Later stop by Suoi Nghe Sheep Village. Tourists always love baby lambs because of their cuteness.
Travel to Dong Nai Province to discover Nam Cat Tien National Park's biodiversity. Explore exotic plants and animals on a jungle hike, or take a thrilling wildlife safari. Return to the lively energy of Ho Chi Minh City as dusk draws near, your heart full of memories from a varied and amazing Vietnam tour.
Arrive in Ho Chi Minh early to take a morning drive to Sa Dec, Dong Thap Province. Alongside a heritage town over 300 years old, Sa Dec is like a vibrant spring painting with endless flower fields. Afterward visiting Huynh Thuy Le Ancient House. Huynh family’s Mansion combined Vietnamese, Chinese, and French designs harmoniously.

Ba Chua Xu Temple is closely connected to the mystical Chau Doc region. Even though there are no specific rules, if you come to An Giang Province, you should definitely visit once. Set on a waterway boat trip to Tra Su Cajuput Forest. Sitting on the boat, you will see birds perched on tree trunks, and many different colored lotus flowers.
Your journey to Phu Quoc Island begins with a scenic trip to Kien Giang Province, followed by a short flight to the island. Settle into your beachfront oasis and relax on Long Beach's sparkling sands. As the evening approaches, enjoy a delicious seafood feast by the shore and take the lively atmosphere of Duong Dong night market.

Spend another day on Phu Quoc Island. Visit Vinpearl Safari and Conservation Park to go on a wildlife adventure and see exotic animals in their natural environments. Your final day will take you to Ca Mau Province. The southernmost point of Vietnam, Ca Mau Cape National Park is only a short flight from Phu Quoc.
