Yen Trung Lake is located in Phuong Dong Ward, Uong Bi City, Quang Ninh province. It is situated along National Highway 18A connecting Hanoi and Ha Long City. With a total area of approximately 100 hectares, Yen Trung Lake is currently the largest freshwater lake in Quang Ninh Province.
Because it’s just 115 kilometers far from downtown Hanoi, you can reach Yen Trung Lake by renting a car and drive there. Take the Hanoi - Hai Phong highway, turn left at the intersection with Provincial Road 10, and continue for another 40 kilometers until you reach National Highway 18. The lake will be on your right. The road is wide and easy to follow, so just pay attention to the signs and maintain a safe speed.

If you are more of an adventurous person, rent a motorcycle and ride to Quang Ninh with the help of Google Maps. In this way, you can sightsee all the beautiful scenery along the way and also keep your trip on a budget.
If you wouldn't prefer to drive there yourself, you can take a 2-hour limousine bus to Quang Ninh for around 200,000 VND per person (prices may vary depending on different agencies). From the center or Quang Ninh, you can call a cab or a motorcycle taxi to get to Yen Trung Lake.
If you depart from somewhere further, you can buy a plane ticket to Quang Ninh, land at Van Don Airport, and call a taxi from there to the lake.

The ideal time to discover the lake is from April to September because during this time, the weather is really balmy and there is little rain, makes it convenient for outdoor activities. Currently, there is no entrance fee to visit Yen Trung Lake, so visitors are free to explore the area. You may need to pay additional fees for using other services like table and chair rental, buying food to feed the fish, or renting picnic services.
One of the experiences you cannot miss when visiting Yen Trung Lake is camping and an outdoor picnic. There are tent rentals and food vendors at the lake so visitors don't need to bring a lot of stuff. Tent rental prices range from VND 150,000 to VND 300,000 per tent, which is quite affordable.
