Currently, Oudomxay does not have a commercial airport. You can choose to fly to Luang Prabang, the former capital of Laos, and then take a bus or tuk-tuk to Oudomxay. Alternatively, you can also take a ferry on the Mekong River from other provinces in Laos to Oudomxay.
Due to its proximity to China, province has experienced rapid economic growth and infrastructure developments, including improved road access to the provincial capital, Xay District.

Oudomxay province has a tropical monsoon climate, divided into the rainy and dry seasons. The rainy season lasts from May to October, with sudden showers. However, this is also the time when the natural scenery is most beautiful.
The dry season is from November to April, with cool weather and light sunshine, ideal for outdoor activities. However, during this time, river and stream water levels may be lower, affecting visits to some sites.

Chom Ong Cave has a network of deep caves with a variety of colorful rock formations. The cave includes many paths and niches deep inside the mountain, stretching over 17 kilometers in length, with widths between 15 and 50 meters and heights from 25 to 100 meters.

Phou Ya Kha Mountain is about 32 kilometers from Xay town and takes more than 4 hours of hiking to reach the scenic viewpoint.
