History

Nam Ha attained recognition as a provincial conservation area in 1980. By 1993, the establishment of Nam Ha National Reserve took place, initially covering 697 square kilometers. Subsequently, in 1999, the reserve underwent expansion, enlarging its area to 2,224 square kilometers. In 2003, Nam Ha National Conservation Area achieved distinction as an ASEAN Heritage Park, making it the sole location in Laos to hold this esteemed title. The Nam Ha Ecotourism Project, a collaborative initiative between UNESCO and the Lao government focused on sustainable management, was awarded the Equator Prize in 2006.
