Dau Tieng Reservoir

Dau Tieng Reservoir is the largest artificial reservoir in Vietnam, covering an area of 270 square kilometers. It was built in 1985 as a reservoir for the hydroelectric dam. However, its open space and the beautiful scenery around have caught the attention of many, making it a popular getaway on weekends and holidays.

Dau Tieng is now among the most beautiful attractions in Southeast Vietnam. The clear blue water and lush green grasslands are a feast for the eyes. In the distance, the undulating mountains and drifting clouds create a picturesque scene. All of this combines to form a harmonious beauty between man-made and natural landscapes. Let’s take on an excursion to immerse in this mighty lake!
Dau Tieng Lake spans the territories of three provinces: Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, and Binh Duong, but Tay Ninh Province manages it. More interestingly, the name "Dau Tieng" is from a ward in Binh Duong Province. The lake serves as an important water source for Sai Gon River, which flows through the city sharing its name located 80 kilometers away. It is also just 15 kilometers from Tay Ninh’s most famous tourist attraction - Ba Den Mountain.
When you are at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, head straight along Truong Chinh Street towards National Highway 22. Turn right at the intersection with Nguyen Thi Lang Street. Continue on Provincial Road 15 and then Provincial Road 744.
Along the way, you’ll pass by the Cu Chi Tunnels, take some time to stop by if you have the chance. Once you reach this point, you're close to the destination. Simply follow the riverbank, and you'll arrive at the camping spot.
The journey becomes much easier if you're already in Tay Ninh City, with less than an hour's travel time. Simply follow Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, and turn towards Ba Den Mountain to reach Duong Minh Chau Town. From there, continue through the town and you'll arrive.

To make your camping trip perfect, we recommend visiting during the dry season, which runs from December to April. During this time, the weather is sunny and pleasant. It’s not too hot and no rain. More importantly, the water level in the reservoir is lower, making camping or outdoor activities much safer.

Not just the dry season, many bring friends and family to the reservoir from June to August to escape the heat. Although this period can be quite hot, the cool breeze from the reservoir helps balance it out. In fact, you can visit Dau Tieng Reservoir any time of the year, just keep in mind that the rainy season from July to November may bring sudden showers and rising water levels.
Dau Tieng Reservoir has long been famous for its poetic and romantic beauty. Besides exploring the natural scenery, witnessing the sunrise and sunset over the reservoir is a must. The sun like a giant red orb rising or setting over the vast waters, creates a breathtaking yet peaceful experience.
Most visitors come here for camping or picnicking. With just a tent, a few chairs, a small table, and some homemade food, you can have an unforgettable weekend getaway. Camping by the reservoir lets you immerse yourself in the serene natural setting, with a clear view of Ba Den Mountain in the distance. Plus, phone signals around the area are quite weak, a perfect excuse to put your phone down and spend quality time sharing stories with each other.

They prefer to visit in the afternoon, setting up camp just in time to watch the sunset. As night falls, a lively BBQ party kicks off, making for a fun and memorable evening. The next morning is the perfect time to capture stunning check-in photos of the reservoir at sunrise.
Dau Tieng Reservoir also offers many other exciting activities. Some camping spots rent out SUP boards, allowing you to paddle across the vast, open water with Ba Den Mountain covered in clouds as your backdrop, an unforgettable experience you’ll not forget. After about 20 minutes drifting on the water, you’ll reach the charming little islands scattered throughout the reservoir.
Thanks to its large size, the reservoir is home to many fish species. Sometimes, just sitting by the shore, you can hear the sound of fish splashing on the water’s surface. Relaxing in a chair, casting a fishing rod, and soaking in the peaceful scenery is a simple yet rewarding experience. While fishing requires patience, the excitement of catching something makes it all worthwhile. And even if you don’t make a catch, it’s still a quiet moment for you to connect with nature.

Besides bringing your own food, you can also pick up some Tay Ninh specialties along the way to fully enjoy the local flavors. Banh trang phoi suong is the perfect snack for a picnic. Rice paper is typically wrapped around boiled pork and fresh herbs, served with vermicelli noodles. Dip it in the sweet and savory soy paste, and you’ll get a truly irresistible taste.
Trang Bang rice noodle soup is the perfect breakfast to fuel up before your trip. This famous dish features soft, chewy rice noodles made from non-glutinous rice, served in a rich and flavorful broth. It’s somewhat similar to noodles or pho, but the noodles and broth have a distinct creamy richness that sets it apart.
