Itinerary
You will depart from Hanoi's Old Quarter and embark on a 2-hour journey to Duong Lam, an ancient village recognized as a cultural and historical site by UNESCO since 2006. The village is home to houses that are 100-400 years old, surrounded by temples and gardens built in honor of two kings who became national heroes for repelling a Chinese invasion roughly 1200 years ago. You will spend 2-4 hours exploring the village, admiring the ancient architecture, and learning about its rich history before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, the journey continues as you drive through the picturesque rural countryside. The landscape gradually transforms from flat fields of rice paddies to dramatic karst formations, surrounded by tea and maize plantations, as you begin to ascend into the mountains. Eventually, you will reach the village of Nghia Lo, where you will experience the warm hospitality of the White Thai people by staying the night in a traditional homestay built on stilts.
This will be an authentic and immersive cultural experience, providing you with the chance to explore both the natural beauty and heritage of Vietnam's rural heartland.
You will rise early for a bicycle ride through the peaceful paddy fields, soaking in the tranquil morning atmosphere. The local villagers start their day early, working in the fields surrounded by ducks, chickens, pigs, and buffaloes.
Afterward, enjoy breakfast in the open air with a beautiful view of the fields before checking out and heading towards the dramatic Khau Pha Mountain Pass. The rice terraces of Tu Le along the way are breathtaking and will leave you in awe.
Following lunch at a local restaurant, you will continue your journey to Nam Co Village, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet the Flower H'mong ethnic minority, known for their vibrant traditional costumes. If your visit coincides with the right day, we will also take you to explore the fascinating local market.
Finally, we will drive you to La Pan Tan and Mam Soi. From here, you can take a short trek (approximately 3km each way) up the hill, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the stunning rice terraces before descending back to Kim Noi village, where you will spend the night in homestay/hotel.
A 6-8 km trek is included in this adventure.
Breakfast will be served outdoors, offering a beautiful view of the surrounding fields before you head to the trekking point. Your trek begins on the Dragon Spine, starting from Kim Noi and making your way to Che Cu Nha along a 15 km trail. This off-the-beaten-path route offers a fantastic opportunity to explore and admire the stunning rice terraces that Mu Cang Chai is famous for. Along the way, you’ll also have the chance to visit a few Hmong hill tribe villages nestled in the area.
A picnic lunch will be served on the terraces, allowing you to rest and soak in the spectacular scenery. After the trek, the driver will pick you up and transfer you back to the ecolodge where you'll spend the night.
A 12-15 km trek is part of this adventure.
Enjoy a relaxing morning, with free time to explore Mu Cang Chai at your own pace. Take in the valley’s scenic charm and capture your last memories of the terraces. Following lunch, head back to Hanoi, where this culturally rich and scenic adventure concludes.
