Trains are a familiar mode of transportation for us. In the early days, trains were a great improvement over mostly traveling on dirt roads at that time, both in terms of time and transportation. Today, there are many faster ways to travel long distances compared to taking the train, but it is still a reasonable choice because of its low cost.

Vietnam's railway system began to take shape in the late 19th century and has been continuously improved, reaching every corner of the country. The longest route is the Reunification Express from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, and remarkably, this route passes through some of the most beautiful places in Vietnam. Join Asia King Travel and explore the beauty on the train.
The Reunification Railway also known as the North-South Railway, is a historic rail line connecting Hanoi capital in the north to Ho Chi Minh City in the south. With a total length of 1,726 kilometers, the journey on the main line takes approximately 35 hours.

The name marks the railway line completed after Vietnam's reunification in 1975. At that time, it was the most common route to travel from North to South. On December 31, 1976, the government decided to organize two Reunification Express trains departing simultaneously from Hanoi and Saigon stations to mark this important event. They met at Da Nang station to the people’s joy.
Currently, 8 trains from SE1 to SE8 run the entire North-South line. All trains are modernly equipped and offer amenities like a mobile hotel. One-way ticket prices range from VND 500,000 to VND 1.6 million depending on the seat class. Compared to airfare, these prices are much more affordable. If you're not in a rush, choosing the train is a great option as it's both budget-friendly and offers scenic views.

The train track running through Phung Hung Street is probably a favorite experience for foreign tourists when visiting Hanoi's Old Quarter. The railway runs right through people's houses. Sitting at a cafe right next to the tracks and waiting for a train to pass is a popular activity. While waiting, you can take photos in the context of the Old Quarter with French colonial houses.

When the train passes by, it's actually a thrilling experience because the train will be just a few meters away from people's houses. Currently, the activity has been restricted for safety reasons, but you can still sit at cafes further away and enjoy the view of the train.
Da Nang - Hue railway is 110 kilometers long and takes about 3 hours to travel. It is the most beautiful railway in Vietnam. Why? You will enjoy the view of Lang Co Bay and Hai Van Pass - the most beautiful mountain pass. Your view will encompass both the ocean and the majestic mountains.

Along the way, the train passes through numerous tunnels carved into the rugged terrain, adding to the sense of adventure and discovery. The train hugs the coastline, providing a stunning landscape of beaches, dramatic cliffs, and crashing waves. Watch for the famous Lang Co Bay, a tranquil body of water between the mountains and the sea.
The coastal road from Da Nang to Binh Thuan will give you a dreamy moment beside the endless coastline. The sea water is emerald green, crystal clear, together with the white sandy beach, you don't need to spend a fortune going to Hawaii or Maldives because that beauty is already here. In summer, the sunlight makes the seawater even more sparkling and radiant in your eyes.

Traveling along the coastal route, you'll be treated to pristine beaches, serene lagoons like those found in Phu Yen, and the vibrant blue bays of Nha Trang. Cu Mong Pass and Ca Pass offer panoramic views no worse than Hai Van Pass.
Compared to traveling by road, taking a train along the coast offers a much more relaxing experience. You'll have ample time to appreciate nature, stop at small stations along the way, and even chat with fellow passengers. Stepping off at a few stations and savoring the flavors of Central Vietnam is highly recommended.
Binh Thuan is Vietnam's largest dragon fruit producer. During the four-hour train ride through the province, you'll witness endless rows of dragon fruit plantations stretching for hundreds of kilometers. These perfectly aligned plantations extend all the way to the sea.

Proper preparation can prevent motion sickness on a train. Eat a light meal beforehand, get enough sleep for the best body condition. Ask gently other passengers if they can give you a window seat. Look straight ahead and breathe in fresh air regularly. Chewing gum or drinking ginger tea can also help soothe your stomach.
