Restaurants at Tan Lap Floating Village specialize in Southern Vietnamese cuisine. Although made with simple ingredients, the dishes have rich and unforgettable flavors.
Grilled Catfish: The traditional grilled catfish is a no-preparation dish. Catfish are caught fresh from the river, cleaned, and skewered. It’s then buried in dry straw and roasted until the ashes fall. Once cooked, the burnt skin is scraped off to reveal the white, fragrant flesh. The fish is typically served with fish sauce or wrapped in rice paper.
Grilled Field Rats: Grilled field rat is a specialty highly sought after in the Mekong Delta. Since their diet mainly consists of rice and young shoots, their meat is fragrant rather than gamey. After being marinated with spices, the rats are grilled over charcoal.
The grilled meat looks so inviting
Rat meat is chewy, imbued with fermented bean curd, a touch of chili, and the smoky taste of charcoal. Any first-time diners may feel apprehensive, but suddenly become addicted to dish when overcome.
Fish Sauce Hotpot: Fish sauce hotpot is a flavorful dish made with a linh fish sauce base. Adding an assortment of meats and seafood. It's typically served with fresh vegetables. Don't let the name fool you; the taste is surprisingly deep and complex.
