History Of Stung Treng Women's Development Center

Founded in 2001 by local Cambodian couple Nguon Chantha and Kim Dara Chan, Stung Treng Women's Development Center was originally conceived in 2001 as a hospice called 'Center of Destination'.

In 2001, the hospice registered as an NGO with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior and began assisting terminally sick and homeless patients in the Stung Treng province who were infected with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. Though the intention was great, funds were limited.

So the pair moved their attention from caring for the dying to providing safer livelihoods for Stung Treng women, the majority of whom lacked skills and an education.
