A Chinese named Mac Thien Tich founded Kien Giang in 1757. During the Minh Mang reign, Kien Giang was part of An Bien Prefecture, Ha Tien Province. on August 16, 1967, it was renamed Kien Giang District under Rach Gia Province.
In 1956, Ha Tien Province was dissolved, and four districts were merged into Rach Gia Province to form Kien Giang Province. Today, Kien Giang Province comprises 15 districts, towns, and cities, along with 145 communes, wards, and townships.

Kien Giang borders Kampot Province of Cambodia to the north with a 56-kilometer border, Ca Mau to the south, the Gulf of Thailand to the west, with a 200-kilometer coastline, and An Giang, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu and Can Tho City to the east and southeast.
This is a familiar route for those who love to explore. Starting from Ho Chi Minh City, you drive to An Lac intersection and turn onto National Highway 1A towards the West. From here, people do not continue on National Highway 1A but turn towards National Highway 80 to Sa Dec (Dong Thap). You can choose a direct flight from Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) to Rach Gia Airport (Vinh Loi ward, Rach Gia, Kien Giang). The travel time by plane to Rach Gia will take about 55 minutes. Rach Gia Airport is about 7 kilometers from the city center - about 15 - 20 minutes more.
