According to the elderly residents on the islet, before 1930, this land was originally called Con Linh. The islet was covered with many lacquer trees, which were harvested for their sap to create lacquerware for gilded wooden furniture. Over time, people gradually became accustomed to calling it Con Son.
In 2014, a television program chose the islet as the filming location for a picnic with a group of students. Seeing the children's excitement while playing, the locals came up with the idea of turning Con Son into a tourist destination. The local authorities also began planning the development of a community-based tourism model.
In 2015, the tourism village officially came into operation. In its early days, the tourist area was still pristine and unfamiliar, with only a few dozen visitors each day, making the scenery feel quite deserted. However, today, Con Son has gained widespread recognition and has become a famous tourist destination in Can Tho.

To achieve this success, more than 100 local households have worked together in cooperation. Each family specializes in a different tourism offering, such as fruit gardens, fish ponds, or cooking classes. Yet, they always support and complement one another, helping Con Son tourism village grow and leave a lasting impression on visitors.

You can choose a direct international flight to Can Tho City. Alternatively, you can take a scenic road trip through the countryside. The distance from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho is about 170 km by road. Simply follow National Highway 1A for approximately four hours to reach your destination. There are daily bus services between the two cities, with ticket prices starting from VND 100,000 per trip.

From the city center, take National Highway 91 northward (along Cach Mang Thang 8 Street – Le Hong Phong Street). When you reach the intersection of Le Hong Phong Street and Dang Van Day Street, continue for another 100 meters, then turn right. At the end of the road, you'll find Co Bac ferry terminal. The ferry ride takes about 10-15 minutes to reach Con Son.
As part of the Mekong Delta region, Con Son enjoys a mild climate with warm sunshine all year round. Typically, the peak tourist season at Con Son lasts from April to July.
This is when the fruit orchards are in full bloom, offering a perfect opportunity to experience life as a true farmer. You can pick ripe, seasonal fruits straight from the trees. Additionally, various games and festivals take place during this time, giving you plenty of activities to enjoy.

Uncle Bay Bon Fish Farm is right at the entrance to Con Son, about 500 meters from the ferry dock. It is a popular stop before officially setting foot on the islet. Here, you can admire hundreds of Koi fish along with other colorful fishes swimming in the pond. Additionally, you can feed the fish. Just drop a handful of food prepared by the farm owner into the water, and hundreds of fish will gather, splashing around and creating a mesmerizing sight.

One of Con Son’s most unique is the “jumping snakehead fish” show, held right in a local garden. To train the fish to perform, the owner conditions them to respond to sound by dividing their daily food into small portions and using a bell to signal feeding time.
After countless repetitions, thousands of fish have developed the reflex to leap into the air whenever they hear the familiar sound, creating a spectacular sight as they jump to catch their food. Witnessing these snakehead fish instinctively springing up to snatch their meal leaves you amazed.

Besides the “flying snakehead fish” show, Song Khanh Garden also has a fascinating activity called “feeding rice to the fish.” At mealtime, the locals use a stick to create rhythmic sounds, attracting the fish in the pond. This is your chance to spoon-feed them directly! The fish here are accustomed to eating rice, so don’t worry, it’s completely safe for them.
The land is enriched with alluvial deposits year-round, making it incredibly fertile and allowing fruit trees to thrive every season. This is the land of rambutan, papaya, longan, and many more. There’s nothing quite like picking fresh fruit straight from the garden and enjoying its natural sweetness, crisp texture, and refreshing taste. After all, there is not much chance to find fruit this fresh, chemical-free, and delicious at such an affordable price, right from the orchard!

From the snakehead fish area, to move faster and avoid exhaustion from walking, you should take a boat or canoe to the cake-making area. Here, you can participate in every step of the process, from preparing ingredients and kneading the dough to making the signature Southern Vietnamese cakes by hand.

After making the cakes, wait a few minutes for them to be steamed or boiled before enjoying them. You will feel the tastiness of every cake you make.
In the canal, you'll become a true local, catching fish with your bare hands. You'll be dressed in traditional Mekong Delta attire, fully equipped like an authentic local. After hours of wading through the muddy water, covered in dirt, the reward will be an exciting catch of fish, snails, and crabs. The joy and thrill of your hard-earned harvest will be unmatched. Locals will then prepare the freshly caught fish into delicious specialty dishes.
