The two of us recently traveled for 3 months in Southern Asia. We developed a general plan. Asia King helped us immensely in organizing and improving upon the 7+ weeks we spent in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos during January and February 2017. This included a week on the Mekong enroute to the Angkor Wat area, a stay in a village up-river from Luang Prabang, a few days among the hill tribes north-east of Hanoi, overnight on the beautiful but too crowded Halong Bay, and several days in Hue and Hoian.
While the time we allotted was too short, the guides and travel connections Asia King arranged helped us to use our time efficiently. Huong Bui reacted perceptively to our ideas and comments during the planning stage. The guides in each location fine-tuned the plan as they listened to our comments and made sure we visited the sites most important to us in a time-efficient manner, including some experiences not on the itinerary. Most of the guides were extremely knowledgeable and could convey the information well, a few had more difficulty providing additional details in response to our questions; unfortunately, sometimes my hearing made it difficult to understand their English. The drivers were reasonably careful and always on time. We prefer small, traditional/ historical hotels with walking access to pleasant neighborhoods and restaurants, and Asia King helped us reserve such safe, comfortable, and friendly places as much as it was possible.
Having arranged a private tour was in general not more expensive than most group tours; it had the major advantages of personalization and of enabling us to slow down when we were tired (as happens more often than in the past - we are 70+) and to extend the day's activities when that made sense. We loved the people we met along the way, and experienced and learned a great deal more about history, culture, geography, and the natural worlds of these countries because of the support from Asia King.
