Best time to visit Tad Lo Waterfall

The greatest time to view the waterfalls is in late October and early November, right after the rainy season. You may see blooming coffee plantations and verdant roadside vegetation at this time of year from Pakse. Water is fed to the waterfalls through a lock system during the remainder of the year; water releases typically occur at 8:00 p.m.

What to do at Tad Lo Waterfall

On the Tad Lo (east) bank of the river, there are a number of vantage sites where you may get a better glimpse at the falls via openings in the foliage. On this side of the falls, you may also descend to the river, where locals frequently go swimming, bathing, and laundry.

Once you continue the trail south to the waterfall, you will ultimately emerge on the west side of the river, where you can see the falls from below. Phou Set Mountain, which is seen as the far peak beyond Tad Lo Waterfall, rises to a maximum elevation of roughly 1,500 meters above sea level.

There is just one ethnic tribe, the Ngae, in certain settlements, like Ban Khiang Tanglae next to Tad Lo waterfall. Sacrificial halls were frequently positioned in the middle of villages that were arranged in a circular or quadrangular pattern. Every year, the ceremony is held in villages; the precise date is determined by the lunar calendar and usually falls in March.

How to get to Tad Lo Waterfall

From Pakse, take the bus to Salavan, and request to be dropped off at Tad Lo. The Tad Lo retreat is located roughly 1.5 kilometers to the south of where the bus should leave you off, which is right after it crosses the Tad Lo river. To get to the resort, simply turn right after the bridge, which is around 70 meters away.

You have three options for getting the final 1.5 km: walk, hitchhike, or maybe rent a tuk-tuk from the bus stop.

What you need to know about Tad Lo Waterfall

It's challenging to get to the base of the falls because you have to navigate a protracted, intricate labyrinth of enormous rocks that are spread out across the riverbed. The less daring can still make their way to the beginning of the boulder-strewn stretch of the river bed and take in the views of the waterfall from a distance. Only the genuinely daring will be willing to seriously do this. As a result, proceed with caution.
