The history of Srah Srang

Srah Srang, also called The Royal Bath, was constructed in the mid-10th century under the direction of Kavindra Rimathana, a Buddhist minister during the reign of King Rajendravarman II.

In the early 13th century, King Jayavarman VII made significant modifications to Srah Srang. The enhancements included adding a landing platform and a three-step staircase leading down to the lake to facilitate access and potentially improve the reservoir's functionality as a royal bathing area.

The reservoir likely fell into ruin in the 16th century along with many other temples in the area. Until the early 20th century, the local authorities made many efforts to restore the surrounding area and the lake’s viewing platform.
