Introduction

A few hours drive from Manila, this magnificent collection of bays and islands is one of the best diving destinations in the country. In Spanish Puerto Galera means the "port of Galleons". Its deep natural harbor, sheltered on all sides, was a privileged anchorage well before the arrival of the Spaniards in 1572, and today it remains a privileged mooring for long-term boaters and short-term vacationers.
Puerto Galera generally refers to the city of Puerto Galera and the resort areas that surround it - namely Sabang, 5 km to the east, and White Beach, 7 km to the west.
