History of Phan Thiet

While there are several hypotheses about Phan Thiet's name, most agree that it is not exclusively Vietnamese. This region was formerly a part of the Champa monarchy, which subsequently joined Dai Viet. Although the borders and administrative levels of the newly formed province of Binh Thuan were not yet set, the administration was constituted concurrently with the province's formation. Governor-General of Indochina A. Klobukowski returned to Phan Thiet on November 4, 1910, and this city officially comprised sixteen villages.
