Luu Ly Waterfall is associated with an intriguing legend revolving around the “Cay Cau Hon” or as known as the "Engage Tree" at the cascade. The fruit of this tree resembles a ring box, containing a large, round seed shaped like a heart.

According to legend, there was a young man named R’No-Dan who loved a village girl named I’Shayk. However, because of his remarkable appearance and being the eldest son of the village elder, I’Shayk feared having to share her husband with other women. 

One day, R’No-Dan, feeling despondent, disappeared into the depths of the forest and he was never to be seen again. Later, the villagers discovered the "Engage Tree," with a bright red heart-shaped seed inside, resembling the lost young man's heart.

The specialty of this region is made from sticky rice soaked with night jasmine leaves, mixed, and stuffed into bamboo tubes. When the rice fills about two-thirds of the tube, the chef pours water into each tube, also strips off the old banana leaves, leave them yellowish and withered from the heat of the fire, and close each tube with a small button.

Diners can experience both the fragrant aroma of sticky rice and the scent of the forest in each bite of bamboo rice. The taste is firm yet tender, savory but not hard, and incredibly satisfying to eat.

Thut soup

According to M’nong people, this dish has a long history. This traditional dish of the M'nong people, used for guest meetings, especially during family gatherings and community feasts.

When enjoying it, diners will perceive the fragrant aroma of bamboo leaves, the spiciness of chili, and the rich, fatty taste of bamboo shoots. When taking the first bite, diners may notice a slight bitterness from the bamboo shoots, which may seem unpalatable at first, but the sweetness will quickly spread.

How to get to Luu Ly Waterfall

From Gia Nghia City, you can use vehicles such as motorcycles or cars to get to the waterfall. The drive would take approximately 45 minutes, and the road to the waterfall has been renovated as well, so traveling is not so difficult.

You just need to follow National Highway No. 14 until you reach the Dak Song BOT Toll Booth. There, you will see signs directing you to Luu Ly Waterfall on the right-hand side. From that point, it's about 10 kilometers through lush green forests and industrial plantations, standing out against the red basalt soil, before you can finally catch sight of the waterfall.
