Although Lang Tengah Island or Pulau Lang Tengah, as known in Malay, does not have a historical background as with most of its neighboring islands, it has an interesting local legend. The island's name roughly translates to "Eagle in the Middle," referring to the legend that eagles used to rest on this island en route between the Redang and Perhentian Islands.
So far, Lang Tengah has hardly been touched by human development, much of its pristine natural beauty and ecosystem remain intact. Lang Tengah has kept its serenity and eco-friendliness apart from many islands that are so commercialized. Lang Tengah Island is primarily famous for its brilliant coral reefs and marine life. Crystal warm waters make it perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving. Since Lang Tengah is part of the Coral Triangle, this island has some of the richest marine biodiversity on the face of the earth. From sea turtles and reef sharks to vibrantly colored tropical fish, one may even see such rare species as the giant clam while diving or snorkeling.
Some of the most well-known dive sites include Blue Coral, Karang Nibong, and Terumbu Kuning. With plenty of dive shops on the island-not very far offshore-there are loads of options for PADI certification courses for complete beginners to seasoned divers alike.

Lang Tengah Island is also undertaking sea turtle conservation. On the quiet, white-sand stretch of beach called Turtle Bay, nests of green and hawksbill turtles have been quite common. This is a godsend if you visit during nesting, roughly between April and October; with any luck, you might catch these gentle giants laying their eggs, or babies hatch and make their perilous dash to the sea.

The Lang Tengah island is mostly covered with thick jungle and is good for trekking. This island may be small, but at its most lush, the tropical forests here are a habitat for monitor lizards, exotic birds, and even flying foxes. A highly popular trail that runs from one side of the island to the other presents you with breathtaking views of the coastline and surrounding islands.
Other great Jungle trekking on Lang Tengah is another great means of seeing the beauty of the island beyond the beach. Remember to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and insect repellent as the trails can be quite humid.

The tranquil beaches of Lang Tengah are suitable for sunbathing. It is lined by a couple of secluded beaches with powdery white sand and crystal clear blue waters. Indeed, great for either swimming or just enjoying the serenity of the atmosphere, it has Pantai Pasir Air.
Lang Tengah is much less developed for tourism than many of the surrounding islands, so generally, the beaches are less crowded and finding a quiet spot to lay back is usually fairly easy.

The climatic state of Lang Tengah Island is tropical, generally characterized by hot and humid conditions throughout the year. However, the best time to visit is during the dry season, which for the most part usually falls between March and October of the year. During this time, the weather is made up of sunny periods with tranquil seas, offering ideal conditions to handle outdoor activities such as snorkeling, diving, and jungle trekking.
Due to the heavy rainfall and rough seas between November and February, it is quite difficult for one to travel across the island since most resorts and services shut down. This, therefore, means that this period must be avoided if you're planning to make a trip in order to fully enjoy all activities on the island.

By air: The nearest airport to Lang Tengah Island is Sultan Mahmud Airport, locals refer to it as Kuala Terengganu. Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia offer daily flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to Kuala Terengganu.
By ferry: Take a ferry or speedboat from Merang Jetty to the island; this would take approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on the sea condition. Most of the resorts have their own boat transfers, and the best is that you should coordinate with them in advance, regarding your time of arrival.
