Koh Kood Island (Koh Kood Trat) @ A walk in the World
Situated next to the Cambodian border, Koh Kood is the fourth biggest island in Thailand; however, somehow, it remains very untouched compared to others. Despite being such an underdeveloped island, most tourists, especially nature-loving ones, will fall in love with this undisturbed destination at first sight.

Compared with Phuket and Koh Samui, these two islands are busier than Koh Kood. That’s why Koh Kood Trat, Thailand is becoming a popular term in recent times, where our dear travellers can have a quieter, more intimate experience. The relaxed lifestyle and less commercial development of the island give way to truly relaxing with the guests amidst nature's beauty, which abounds in Thailand.
Many tourists visiting Koh Kood call this island a paradise incognito. One tourist describes his experience as an ideal blend of activity and leisure, while the other praises the island's commitment to preserving its natural environment: "Koh Kood represents the epitome of responsible tourism. It's an island where you can revel in nature without crowds."

Koh Kood Island, Thailand, has a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year. Various Thai tourism agencies consider the best time to travel to Koh Kood to be between November and February next year, although the monsoon rains are moderate even during the rainy season. You may observe the crystal clear waters; however, it also restricts some activities due to rough seas.

Also, in the low season, between April and November, canoeing to the island as tourist arrivals are less frequent. So from the author’s perspective, the ideal time to visit is from December to March next year. These months are recommended because in this period, the days are usually sunny and warmer, plus the flat sea, is suitable for water-based activities such as snorkeling and diving.

Ao Phrao Beach is far and away the best one to visit, compared to a lot of beaches on Koh Kood. Ao Phrao Beach is located at the southernmost end of the island, and with a length of about 1 km along its southwest coastline, it is one of the longest, most spacious beaches in Koh Kood. The secluded nature of this location, along with the very long extent of the beach, makes Ao Phrao Beach feel less crowded than some other beaches on the island.

This beach name probably refers to this fact, as Prao, or in Thai, Ma Prao, literally means 'coconut', and you can easily witness the island surrounded by beautiful coconut trees; It has fine, white sand and is lined with transparent, shallow water, making it just perfect for swimming.
Besides, Ao Prao also offers plenty of awesome photo spots, like an ocean swing or a wooden pier stretching into the sea. There is lots of shade along the beach, too, in which one can protect oneself from the sun. It has all the qualities to be the perfect beach.

Apart from beaches, there are some waterfalls that you can visit around Koh Kood. One of the best waterfalls is Khlong Chao Waterfall, located in the middle of a thick jungle in the heart of the island.
You can even drive your motorcycle right up to the door, after which it's an easy 300-metre walk to the waterfall! This path is actually very well-maintained and follows down the creek, with ropes in some areas, so you will be okay even if it can get a little slick sometimes!

That being said, the hike itself is not too hard, and it is rather self-explanatory. It definitely won't take more than 10 minutes to reach the waterfall. You could easily do this hike in flip-flops without issues.
Once you reach the waterfall, you may jump in and swim or climb up a hidden path to the top to view the vista. Isn't it just great to experience the magnificence of the waterfall? There is even a swing rope so that you can swing and dive into the water in style!

You can stop wondering why most of the attractions on the island seem to be on the west side as I take you east and introduce you to Ao Yai Fisherman Village, featuring a petite fishing village and the best seafood restaurant on the island.

If you want more than a seafood craving, Noochy Seafood is one of the best places, for they prepare several meals from the source daily. You could also see some staff cleaning and cooking freshly caught fish and mussels in their kitchen.
While their pricing might go up to 120 THB, at least in comparison with many other restaurants inside resorts in this area, you get the quality and quantity of Thai food you pay for.

Lastly, if you find Ao Prao Beach too monotonous, there are plenty more beautiful beaches, among them Ao Tapao Beach, White Beach, and Bang Bao Beach.
White Beach might be the optimal option for travellers. It's right on the main road, the sand being just as the name suggests, which is completely white and the water is surprisingly clear. There's a large resort nearby, which might not be as empty as Ao Prao but is definitely a better bet than what's available on other islands.

Other nice beaches that are worth visiting include Ao Tapao Beach and Bang Bao Beach, although one has to walk through resorts to get to these places. They do not feel as open as Ao Prao Beach, given their smaller size, especially with all the people who would be staying and chilling at those resorts. They may have all the hallmarks of a really good beach but are not quite as outstanding as that of Ao Prao Beach.

Furthermore, you can visit the Khlong Yai Kee Waterfall, which is set toward the northern part of the island. The site features a large cascade with a swimmable pool, much like the Khlong Chao Waterfall. This is a nice stop-off point while you are exploring the north of Koh Kood.

For those who want eco-friendlier accommodation for a sustainable stopover, several environmentally-friendly resorts on Koh Kood put sustainability first without condemning guests to discomfort. Such eco-resorts resort to solar energy, organic materials, and even vegetable gardens in-house to present a thoroughly green experience to the guests. One example is Siam Beach Resort & Spa, and another is Peter Pan Resort.

Moreover, many affordable bungalows for budget travelers or backpackers looking to save are also available. Most budget bungalows are located close to beaches or in quieter green areas, and also offer basic features like fans or air conditioning and mosquito nets, with shared bathrooms. Some recommended options would be Baan Aowthai Bungalow or Yataa Island Resort.
