Introduction

Regarding the Central Highlands, we often only remember Da Lat foggy city or Buon Ma Thuot coffee paradise. However, few people know that the mountainous town also has many equally attractive destinations.

This place has a wild, liberal, poetic and romantic beauty that "causes nostalgia" for many travelers from far away. The name Gia Lai comes from the word "Jarai." This is the name of an ethnic group living in this fertile land. Despite the ups and downs of the times, the locals still preserve their traditional beauty and unique cultural identity.

History

This location was formerly a long-standing residential area of ethnic groups such as Jrai, Ba Na, and Cham, who lived in villages. France invaded and gradually established a governing apparatus throughout this land from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

After many changes, mergers, and divisions to establish administrative units in the Central Highlands, on May 24, 1932, according to the Decree of the Governor-General of Indochina, Pleiku Province was established. After 1945, the Vietnamese revolutionary government replaced Pleiku to call it Gia Lai Province.

What to eat

Gia Lai Dry Pho

The locals often call this dish "2-bowl pho." Dry pho is prepared a bit differently than other types of pho. If Hanoi pho or Saigon pho usually has pho, beef, and broth in the same bowl, this dish has a more "unique" way of eating: eating with two bowls: one bowl of pho and one bowl of broth.

A bowl of dry pho, in addition to pho noodles, also has bean sprouts, minced lean meat, and crispy fried onions. When eating, add a little red chili to the bowl of pho, a little black sauce, chili sauce, squeeze a lemon slice, add vinegar to the piece until you feel satisfied.

The broth is carefully simmered by the cook for many hours, so the broth has the natural sweetness of bones and meat. When you can visit this charming land you should try this dish.

Forest Leaf Hotpot

Gia Lai has gifted the people with all kinds of forest leaves that are beneficial to health. The forest leaves here are considered both a green vegetable and a precious medicine passed down for thousands of years. Because of these extremely valuable benefits, the locals have taken advantage of this natural resource to make forest leaf hotpot.
