Binh Thuy Ancient House’s Gate
The door and fence are designed in French mansion style. In the left corner of the yard, there is a small shrine dedicated to the earth god. When standing inside the yard and looking up at the ancient house's facade, visitors will be amazed by the exquisite beauty of the decorative lines from the columns, iron arches to the embossed motifs that are still well preserved.
In the 1980s, Mr. Duong Van Ngon - the 5th generation descendant of this family with a passion for ornamental plants - collected many precious orchid varieties from all over. And a botanical garden began to form within the house premises from then on. Among them, the most special is the Mexican cactus over 40 years old.
In the garden, homeowners also built a rockery
Unlike many other houses, the facade of Binh Thuy Ancient House does not have a direct staircase but is designed on both sides. In the middle of the two staircases are ornamental plants, embodying the oriental concept of Eastern people.
In the center of the house is a large altar in the traditional style of the Southern people. All worship items are delicately carved with symbolic images in Eastern culture. Although the house is decorated in European style, the most important place - the altar room is purely Vietnamese. This shows a harmonious and selective exchange of Eastern and Western cultures, reflecting the owner's refined aesthetic taste.

Handwritten letter from Director Jean Jacques Annaud to Mr. Duong Minh Hien
The reason the director chose this place as a film set is it bears a strong imprint of ancient culture, while the owner himself is extremely subtle and elegant in his reception. Mr. Duong Minh Hien advised the film crew on the costumes and daily life of Southern people like a living document.
Overwhelmed by the wonderful settings for the film, and deeply moved by the selfless hospitality of the house owner, Jean Jacques Annaud wrote a letter of thanks to him. "I am overwhelmed by the impressive splendor of this house. I hope through the film it will become famous worldwide. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality." He wrote.
This introduction to Binh Thuy Ancient House was written shortly after Mr. Duong Minh Hien passed away in this very house.
